The Issues

While the responsibilities of State Representatives are wide ranging, they are mostly divided between being a legislature in the Statehouse and sitting on the Belknap County Delegation making decisions at the county level such as funding for the county nursing home, sheriff’s office, county corrections and the county attorney. I will highlight below some of the issues I believe are most important to the people of Meredith. If an issue that is dear to you isn’t addressed below, please contact me and I’d love to listen and learn what’s important to you.

Maintaining New Hampshire’s Advantage of Lower Taxes

I will ensure that the benefit of every dollar raised gives maximum value back to the community. I’m against broad based taxes such as a state income or sales tax. I oppose tax policy and programs that will downshift cost to the local taxpayer.

Cost of Living

As a father of three, I know how expensive life in New Hampshire has become for young families. At times politicians in Concord have put special interest groups and political allegiances ahead of their duty to the families they represent. The legislators in Concord need to put aside their political differences and work together on sensible proposals that will make life easier for regular folks just trying to get by regardless of the various political whims of the moment.

Abortion

I believe New Hampshire's current abortion laws reflect the overwhelming majority of Granite Staters' beliefs on the issue, and I don't believe any major changes should be made.

Defending Democracy

Democratic elections of government representatives are the most important feature of our government. Without faith in our democratic process, we lose faith in all our country stands for. New Hampshire’s elections have been free and fair, we must continue to protect that and make voting accessible and straight forward for all eligible voters.

Education

I’m strongly invested in our children and their future as citizens of Meredith. I’ll be paying close attention to the funding issues facing our schools. Parents, educators and community members alike can be united in supporting robust and accessible education.

Addressing our Mental Health Crisis

Decades ago New Hampshire was on the cutting edge of mental health treatment with a robust system of care. These basic services have suffered and left our current system of care severely lacking. Early intervention saves lives, decreases the cultural stigma and ultimately lowers not only the human cost but also the fiscal cost to society. An efficient and complete system of care ultimately saves tax payers money. Many times people living with a mental illness in our state are treated as criminals, lack access to safe stable housing, and are excluded from meaningful employment. Mental illness deserves equitable acknowledgment and treatment to physical health, getting help for a mental illness symptoms should be no different from going to a doctor when you think your leg might be broken.

Second Amendment

New Hampshire has a proud tradition of supporting our Second Amendment rights, and I plan to continue that tradition.

Gunstock Mountain

We have recently seen one of our most treasured local resources Gunstock Mountain has become a victim of political gamesmanship. I believe the apolitical nature of the Gunstock Area Commission has served our community well and I will vote to maintain its integrity and keep it in public hands.
